One-on-one counselling with Nikki Munitz
Individual counselling is a private, one-on-one session with Nikki, face to face in Cape Town or online from anywhere.
Sessions run for 45 to 50 minutes. Where a session runs longer, that is arranged and charged accordingly.
What actually happens in a first session
Most people arrive believing they know what the problem is. Often they are only partly right.
A first session is a conversation about your history and your situation, and a careful piece of work to establish what you actually need most — which is not always what brought you through the door.
One example, with the details changed. A woman came to Nikki because she wanted her son to go to rehab. She is now working on herself, because it became clear that she had spent years putting everything into him and nothing into herself. He was stuck partly because – she was stuck.
That is what the first session is for. Not a diagnosis, and not a form to fill in. A proper look at where the difficulty actually sits, and then a clear view of what would help.
What people come to talk about
Self-esteem and self-worth
The foundation under most of the rest, and Nikki’s core specialism. When the problem is not what you are doing, but what you believe about yourself while you do it. Self-esteem is learned, which means it can be relearned.
Recovery
Whether you are the one in recovery or the one holding things together around somebody who is. Both are hard, and the second is rarely treated as though it counts.
Relationships
When the details change but the shape does not. The same argument, the same ending, the same feeling of having been here before.
Eating, body image and control
Food and body image are often where something else gets managed. This is a place to talk about that without having to explain or justify it first.
Boundaries and communication
When saying no costs more than it should, or when the same conversation keeps going the same way. Boundaries are a skill, not a personality trait, and they can be learned at any age.
Burnout
When the work still gets done and there is nothing left afterwards. Most people reach this long before they call it anything.
Equine facilitated sessions
Nikki holds a Level 2 Certificate in Equine Facilitated Interactions from the Athena Herd Foundation.
Working alongside horses surfaces things that talking sometimes does not. Horses respond to what is actually happening in a person rather than to what they are saying, which makes them unusually good at showing somebody their own patterns. It suits people who find conventional sessions difficult, and people who have talked about something for years without it shifting.
Available as standalone sessions and as part of selected retreats.
Why Nikki
Nikki has worked in recovery and self-development since 2010 and has a personal history she writes about openly. She was a heroin addict. She went to prison. She rebuilt a life from there, and she developed the self-esteem model she now teaches because it was the thing that changed hers.
